Admired by the salon's clients and thousands of motorists driving in and out of Carlisle every day, they also attract media attention. "I like them to be tongue in cheek, to make people smile but they can also make a serious point - such as the Mencap billboard that got a lot of attention from the press," said Lockstock proprietor Lynda Kyle.
